Ted's Hiking World Christmas Valley - Big Meadow Loop
Eldorado National Forest

September 25, 2025

Today I tried using only my iPhone as the trip camera, for the first time ever; the picture quality was great, but using that unit just wasn't the same.  For now at least, the phone will revert to its former status as a backup unit; but I really should do some comparative testing.

There are no photos of our lunch break, because I was charging the phone.  And for the record, Eileen did not visit here on the Round Lake hike on August 28; that was the day we did burgers at Jim's place.  Eileen and I did venture up to Round Lake on a prior occasion.

My GPS and maps show that the actual trail distance is more than a mile farther than is shown on the trailhead signpost; moreover, that designation has been known to be incorrect for many years now.0

§: Well, the afternoon option was about the same distance overall, and it certainly was different; but it was not prettier than the other trail.  I am, however, determined finally to get back to Dardanelles Lake using the shorter Tahoe Rim Trail approach — perhaps next midsummer.

Note the trail at center-left near the "20" marking, showing a section of the route that has been rerouted to nearly three times its original length.  There were several other extensions as well.
